Biblical Stewardship: How God Blessed Me by Tithing

This is my personal testimony of how God blessed me through one simple act of obedience. I do not believe we should give with the intent of getting something back, but I do believe God honors obedience and loves a cheerful giver.

What Tithing Meant to Me

God tells us that tithing is giving ten percent of our income. Scripture also teaches, “Give, and it shall be given unto you.” Tithing is an act of obedience to God.

At the beginning of 2020, I started faithfully paying my ten percent tithe to the church. At first I was worried about our finances because we had always struggled financially in our marriage.

But I wanted to contribute and be obedient to God with what He had blessed me with. So in February, I started doing just that.

What I Noticed After Giving

The very first week I gave, I noticed we had money left over before our next payday. That had not happened before.

This is the only thing I know of where God asked us to test Him in this act of obedience. As the months went on, we continued to have extra and were not living paycheck to paycheck in the same way.

A Testimony of Provision

When we got our copy from our 2020 tax return, our income was around the same as years before. Then when we filed our income tax in 2021, our income had increased almost twenty thousand dollars. After we filed our 2022 taxes, it increased again.

God blessed us in a powerful way over those years. I was paying tithes on my income in 2020, but when we faced having to buy a home, I asked my wife to start paying her tithe as an act of faith. We were able to come up with the money required to buy our house.

Giving With the Right Heart

I do not believe you should give with the intent of getting. I believe you should practice obedience, be a cheerful giver, and not expect anything in return.

This is my testimony of what God has done in my life. I believe He wants us to trust Him with every part of life, including finances.

Questions About Biblical Stewardship

Is tithing only about money?

Tithing involves money, but stewardship is bigger than money. It is about honoring God with what He has provided.

Should I give just to receive something back?

No. Giving should come from obedience, faith, and a cheerful heart, not from trying to force a blessing.
