How to Listen to God Biblically

God can speak to His people in many ways. I believe He wants to communicate with us, and through Jesus our sins are forgiven so we can draw near to Him.
Listening to God is not about chasing something strange. It is about growing in relationship with Him, turning away from sin, spending time in prayer, and learning to recognize His leading through the Holy Spirit and His Word.
God Speaks in Different Ways
I believe God can speak whenever He wants, whether it is through conviction or love. He can do all things and can use any instrument He chooses.
He speaks to some through reading and meditating on His Word. Others may experience Him through other people, ministers, conviction, prayer, or even a still small voice.
How I Hear From God
I hear from God in several of these ways. I can pray, and at the end of my prayer He will start to speak to me. It is not an audible voice from outside, but internal.
It is as if it is my own internal dialogue, but I am not forcing the thoughts. At first it felt like a one-sided conversation, but now I can ask questions and seek truth in different areas of my life.
Prayer, Repentance, and Spiritual Growth
My faith has grown stronger as He has revealed Himself to me. Before I could hear Him, my mind would wander and look for distractions because I was living in sin. But now I seek time with Him and look forward to prayer.
Throughout the day I am more at peace, and I meditate on what He has spoken to me. I believe God wants this type of relationship with believers, and that is one reason Jesus died on the cross, so we could be brought near to God through Him.
God Is Not Limited
I do not say this to boast about how holy I have become. I share it to encourage you to experience God in a deeper way.
God is infinite. He is not limited to one thing at a time. He can be part of your life while also being part of mine, because He is with us always. His Spirit dwells in us, so we have access to Him at any given moment.
A Simple Challenge
Ask God to speak to you and continue choosing Him over sinful desires. Build a consistent prayer life. Seek Him, and you will find Him.
I also wrote a simple prayer to draw closer to God. You can read it here: Draw Closer to God.
